ART for 1170

A few samples of the great creations made by 2-5th grade students and Totem poles made by 6th -12th grade students.  Next week is another week. This allows me to test/explore potential lessons for the 900+ students during the school year. A student asked me if they could "make anything they want". I know that often strikes fear in art teachers. For me it's not what they make it's more I want them to have past knowledge so that their idea will be successful. For example not to thick or thin. But Erik is a great student and he wanted to create a "claw machine" that you see in arcades.  Pretty cool huh! I usually add glass marbles to the center before firing but this student didn't want to add any.  She is so meticulous and creates beautiful works. Love, love this totem bead

Clay Camp was incredible in June and since there was a  waiting list we did another camp in August. Once again a terrific group of artists who created birdbaths, wall pockets and animals and much more. Thank you moms for letting me post these pictures.  Today was "Meet the Teacher" at PKE and I can't believe how much I missed my students. I saw lots of growth, summer tans and missing teeth (gotta love first grade).  My schedule is posted on the Schedule page however I've heard there may be more tweeking next week .  I'm looking forward to another year and these artists give me so much motivation and for that I am thankful!

I saw this lesson on Artsonia and have always wanted to try glass in the kiln. Now add a generous donation of glass beads and it was just perfect. The students made two pinch pots, inverted one then added a bird and some details to the sides of the bath. The glass worked perfectly, firing at C05. The only thing that goofed was a few birds "Fell" into their baths. I think that was because with the humidity I didn't do a bisque fire. 

What an incredible week with a group of 2nd - 5th graders! I love this part of summer. This is just a preview of some of the wonderful things these artist created with clay, plaster and tiles.  I could not have hand picked a better group of kids and I am so thankful for their parents who support their child's love of art!...more to come.
